What Recession?

Tomorrow I intend to put a blog entry on the site about getting to the airport a little earlier than the rest.  If I could access it on my mobile phone I would put it on now but I packed the cable I need in my suitcase.  Why am I going on about this you may ask yourself?

Well because it's March break here in Canada which started this Friday I thought I would get to the airport early and practice what I preach.  Especially as I left booking my flight to the last minute and couldn't get a flight out of Toronto bound for London England.  I reasonably expected the airport to be busy.  It wasn't, but I will get to that later.

What I want to know is "What Recession?".  It's a rhetorical question because we all know there is a recession but I was kind of surprized when I came to book a flight day before yesterday that there was laterally not a seat left.  You might be saying there would have to be a seat on some flight?

Well I'm here to tell you there wasn't one.  Not in Economy, Not in Business, Not in First Class.  Not that I am or was shopping in either of the last 2 classes.  My carrier of choice being a proud Canadian resident is Air Canada and when I finally found an open seat when I started to be creative it was on a flight which first took me half way across Canada in the wrong direction to Calgary.  Where I had a layover before boarding a flight to London.  All for the bargain basement price of I think it was just under $4000 economy.

Needless to say I declined the LAST seat on the plane.  Taking the position that I am a Tour Director, Travel Agent, Man of the World and a determined resourceful traveler.  After another 45 minutes with Adrienne (Who works in the office with me in Hamilton) and I looking we finally came up with a booking on Air Canada to Boston, connecting to a flight with Virgin Atlantic to London.  All for under C$1000.

One of the places I am going with this is why would you want to do this sort of thing yourself?  This is why you find and then hang onto a good travel agent.  These are the sort of people who take all the stress out of traveling, leaving you with the warm fuzzy part of the vacation or business trip.  Adrienne@AffordableCruisesTours.com

Always looking for a silver lining, the thing I am interested in is seeing what Virgin Atlantic is like.  Tomorrow London time I will let you know with perhaps a few photos as I have splurged a little and paid about $100 extra for the Premium Economy seat on the plane.  www.virgin.com

Where all this started was about getting to airport early.  As I expected too, I arrived 2 hours 45 minutes before my flight and waltzed through from check in to passport and customs, to security.  All along the way remarking to officials at how quiet it was.  Hearing the same response from each of them,  "It's going to get very busy very soon."  What do I care I am sitting in the lounge with enough time to post this entry and have a Virgin Mary.
